How has life been?

If you just finished writing exams, like me, how are you feeling?

It’s been over a month since I last updated this newsletter, so I hope you guys missed me. I know I missed you. I would be doing something random and an idea would come to my head, and I’d think, “ooh, this would make a great newsletter piece.”

The past month has been a lot, so many things have happened. First, I have found a new hobby—buying fabrics at Yaba market. It started off as a thing of necessity. I needed clothes for functions, or events and so I’d stroll to the market and buy them to give a tailor. Then it became a thing of just visiting the market and buying fabrics I thought were cute without any idea of what I wanted to do with them and why I was buying them. Now, omo. I gist with the fabric sellers, ask them about the fabrics and the story behind why they are selling them—I also discover new things to love. For instance, very few stores sell linen because they are quite expensive. Whites are the most expensive colours, too. They are nearly double the price of coloured linen. I also discovered breeds of cotton meshed with silk that are LOVELY, and half of the fabrics I end up buying are green, because it’s a spectacular colour. In the next few months, I would like to explore colours I don’t really wear—like purples and blues. So we will see how that goes.

Secondly, I have been very busy planning events. I have three events I am currently organizing to take place within the next two weeks, so you can imagine what my life is currently like. There is the Founders Connect Live in Lagos event, a tech event that is happening on the 8th of July. I would say more, but I don’t want to entice you because the tickets are sold out, but it promises to be an amazing time. Then there is the Selar Digital Creator Summit, which is happening on the 6-7th of July. This event is for creators in Africa to come and learn how to position themselves for international opportunities. We have over twenty speakers attending this conference, including MI Abaga, Josh2Funny, Fisayo Fosudo and more! I am pretty excited about this because in more ways than one, it’s been my child. Then there is the Lagos Model United Nations—which is a conference that holds every year, and is targetted towards young people from the ages of 18-30 who are passionate about global issues and sustainable development. If the Summit is my child, then LMUN is my baby. I have been a part of the conference since 2019 and this year I am handing over the torch to the next gen, so it’s been a very hectic and emotional ride. I think everyone should do LMUN at least once in their lives, because it just influences your perspective. It has made me a more ambitious person, a better leader and teamplayer, so I am looking forward to the experience, and I really hope you can be a part of it too.

Finally, I am FINALLY in my final year (yay!!) This is the good news. The bad news is that I sacrificed all my personality and funlovingness on the altar of Land Law last semester, so I have been thinking about ways to spice things up and rediscover old (and new) hobbies and interests. I want to write more fiction, and hopefully get some pieces published. I want to live more, and desire living less. I want to visit new places, and post more content on Instagram. I want to make new friends. I want to read as many books as I can get my hands on, and I just want to have a great time. Afterall, that is what life and living is about. So if you have movie and book recommendations for me, please leave them below. My vibe is “slice-of-life,” romcoms, old movies that are loved, and books too.
